Are You a Diabetic?

Are you a "Diabetic?"  I am NOT!  No, I am not in denial.  I have lived with Type 1 Diabetes for 27 years.  But it has never nor will it ever define me.  I AM many things among which are  a Mother; a wife; a sister; a daughter; a friend and now...a blogger  AND I have Diabetes.  I take my illness very seriously and I live a full and wonderful life.  Is it easy?  Of course not...but no one ever said that it would be.  Is it worth the effort?  Of course it is.  The effort that I put into maintaining my health enables me to live my life to the fullest.

Please comment and tell me ....  are you a Diabetic????
What defines you????

  1. Lissy, I have had type 1 for 65 years, and I have been called a diabetic since I was 6 years old, so I have no objection to being a diabetic. I grew up with it. I go about my daily routine with ease, and do not stress over my diabetes. Life is good, and I am very healthy. My life with diabetes is essentially the only life I have known. Living this wonderful, healthy life is what defines me. I take great pleasure in helping my fellow diabetics in the online diabetes support groups, and on Facebook

  2. I love how you wrote..."living this wonderful healthy life is what defines me."
That is such an inspirational statement.

Do you use a Continuous Glucose Monitoring System?

  3. Hi Lissy,

I come by way of your post on Diabetic Connect
    :-). Yes, I am a T2 insulin dependent diabetic.

The road at times has been a bumpy one. And yes for a long while I did let Diabetes define me.

That was until I heard Patty LaBelle share with the world that "Diabetes does not define her!" It was a wow moment for me :-)..

Now I hold my head up high and say the same thing and mean it.

I will continue to visit your lovely journal. I look forward to your postings :-).

I too have a blog on here. Please come by for a visit and say hello.

  5. As the father (and son) of type one diabetics, I can truly feel the problems experienced by them. Mother lived to age 67. This was over 50 years ago (her passing). Today thankfully so much progress has been made in the treatment of diabetics that they can lead full and productive lives. My daughter takes full control of her health resulting in her leading a normal and happy life. Happily she has healthy children and a happy marriage. I feel that much of her good fortune is due to a healthful lifestyle and optimistic outlook.
    Emulate her!

  6. I am a SURVIVOR and a Diabetic. My Diabetes is due to 2 emergency surgeries from NECROTIZING PANCREATITIS that I almost died from. I was in the hospital clinging to life for 3 months. I am happy I am alive! I am trying to find the reason why I survived when many people die from the same thing that happend to me. I work every day to keep a good attitude and work on my blood sugar. We have 1 LIFE and we should live it to the FULLEST & be GRATEFUL for every day that we have.

Thank goodness you survived it!!! I love your positive attitude! I agree with you that we have to be grateful for everyday and live our lives to the fullest! Thank you for both of your posts!
